This self-paced online class provides an introduction to environmental health and environmental justice and presents three environmental justice resources you can use to find data and statistics about environmental health disparities in your community: EPA's EJ Screen, CDC's Environmental Justice Dashboard, and National Library of Medicine's Medline Plus.
This class will be delivered entirely online through the Moodle course management system. The class is broken up into 5 topics that are presented through a tutorial with narrated demonstrations and knowledge checks. All the topics are open and available for you to work through at your own pace.
This presentation addresses health information resources and data, improving health literacy, and increasing health equity through information, and the NNLM initiative of Environmental Determinants of Health by demonstrating how to search MedlinePlus to find environmental health information for library patrons and members of the public.
Upon completion of this class, students will be able to:
- Define environmental health and environmental justice.
- Use the Environmental Justice Dashboard from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to find data on environmental health disparities in your community.
- Use EJScreen, the Environmental Protection Agency's Environmental Justice Mapping tool to find environmental health and demographic data.
- Search MedlinePlus.gov to find environmental health information for library patrons and members of the public.
