The Network of the National Library of Medicine (NNLM) Region 5 is offering an opportunity for NNLM members in Region 5 to host a viewing of the 30-minute documentary, Laboring with Hope for their communities. This program is intended to improve awareness of maternal health disparities and create opportunities to share reliable health information.

Access to the film comes with a conversation guide, health information resources, a bibliography of peer-reviewed articles, and infographics.

The film would be an excellent addition to nursing and public health classes as well as for a library program. Please contact the Region 5 office if you’re interested in accessing the film, and we’ll help you get set up. Learn more about this opportunity on our blog.

We are extending access to the film through April 2024.

MedlinePlus tutorials for Community Health Workers

MedlinePlus is a great resource for health information. It provides information for the public on a wide range of health topics. But maybe you are unsure how to use MedlinePlus.

Region 5 of the Network of the National Library of Medicine worked with The Next Door to create seven easy to follow video tutorials about the basics of using MedlinePlus to find health information. The videos are designed for community health workers but are useful for anyone needing trustworthy health information.

Each video is short, ranging from just over 4 minutes to just over 8 minutes in length.

To help make it easier for more people to learn how to use MedlinePlus, each video tutorial has:

  • closed captioning and
  • includes a written transcript.
