The goal of the NNLM is to advance the progress of medicine and improve public health by providing U.S. health professionals with equal access to biomedical information and improving individuals' access to information to enable them to make informed decisions about their health.
The University of Massachusetts Chan Medical School, Lamar Soutter Library serves as the Regional Medical Library (RML) for Region 7, which provides programs, services, and dedicated support for NNLM Members in Connecticut, Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire, New York, Rhode Island, and Vermont.
Our regional priority areas serve to focus and inform our activities. We take an integrated approach to addressing priority topics, which guides the implementation of local and regional programming.
Communities of Interest (COI) support partners in emerging roles related to health information and education. Members of COI share ideas, knowledge, and experiences to help each other improve their organization's services.
Our Priority Areas and COIs include:
- Multilingual and Multicultural Health Information Resources

Focused outreach brings the resources of the NNLM upon a community in order to conduct a systematic approach of identifying health agencies, pursue contacts, and develop relationships with key leaders. The goal is to assess health information use patterns, promote resources, and conduct training with partners.
