Data Migration


Data migration is the process of transferring data between storage types, formats, or computer systems. The migration of data from one storage location to another or from one format to another can be a very complicated process that requires computers to be programmed so that this process can be completed automatically. Preservation principles are essential during data migration to ensure that data is not lost or damaged when it is being migrated. Data migration can also afford the opportunity to transfer, or re-create data from an out-of-date medium to a current medium so that it can still be used prospectively.
