Grant Application - Outreach

This grant application is to fund adaptive cycling events supported by the Blackstone River Valley National Heritage Corridor (BHC) Volunteers-In-Parks program in partnership with Blackstone River Valley National Historical Park, All Out Adventures, Bike-On, Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation, and Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management, to be held along the Blackstone River Greenway in Blackstone, MA and the Blackstone River Bikeway in Lincoln, RI. This grant application is to support individuals who have various disabilities. At these events, trained volunteers will assist individuals with disabilities, their caretakers, and their family members with accessing adaptive cycles to suit their needs. It's an opportunity for participants to have access to our amazing resource, the Blackstone River Greenway and Bikeway, located along the Blackstone River and Canal.

Volunteers will be trained to use NNLM websites and databases, especially MedlinePlus, to increase their awareness of and access to knowledge on health information for people with disabilities. This outreach is needed because people with disabilities are at higher risk of having additional health issues, including obesity, and are much less active than their able-bodied peers.
