Tony Nguyen, MLIS, AHIP, is the Executive Director for the Network of the National Library of Medicine (NNLM), Region 1 located at the Health Sciences and Human Services Library at the University of Maryland, Baltimore. The Region 1 Regional Medical Library provides programs, services, and dedicated support for NNLM members in Delaware, Kentucky, Maryland, New Jersey, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia, and the District of Columbia. In my role, I oversee the planning, implementation, management, and evaluation of the overall regional medical library program, the day-to-day operations of the office, and identify regional opportunities to support NLM priorities and NNLM initiatives. Prior to working at the NNLM, I served as a Hospital Librarian in Columbus, OH. Organizations can become a member for free to apply for funding and receive NNLM resources. Region 1 Unconference: Bridging the Digital Divide (Day 2) ​​​​​​​Issues such as decreased internet connectivity, lack of Wi-Fi, and video chat or webcam technology in both urban and rural areas can hinder access to online health and medical information, and telehealth to its fullest capacity, especially to communities of color, the poor, and medically underserved. The goal of this initiative is to promote technology and digital equity, digital literacy, and telehealth through long-term partnerships and collaborations that will bring access to online health information to communities across the United States. At this unconference, we want to hear how you are engaging with your users.

Region 1 Unconference: Environmental Determinants of Health (Day 3) Environmental factors can influence human health, including physical, chemical, and biological factors that are external to a person, and all related behaviors. Collectively, these are referred to as environmental determinants of health (EDHs). Threats to any one of the EDHs can have an adverse impact on the health and well-being of the population. At this unconference, we want to hear how you are engaging with your users.

Telehealth Services and Social Innovation through Public Libraries Public libraries’ roles have expanded over the past several decades as community needs have exploded. Currently, libraries are responding to social inequities, health disparities, and the growing mental health crisis. Teleservices are also providing convenient access to attorneys, employers, immigration services, and more! Hear about Delaware Libraries telehealth journey and lessons learned through the years as well as online resources that we use including forms and more!
