The YWCA Central Massachusetts has been providing services for girls, women, and their families in the central Massachusetts area for more than 135 years. YWCA is dedicated to eliminating racism, empowering women, and promoting peace, justice, freedom, and dignity for all.
Learn the approach the YWCA Central Massachusetts took to reach individuals in the community to build awareness about breast and cervical cancer. Beginning with connecting and developing relationships with organizations in the community to building a foundation to provide the resources to individuals. You will learn the challenges the YWCA had to overcome, the method they took and how it was successful, and how the whole project was so rewarding.
Guest Speaker Bio: Sofia Perno (she/her) joined the YWCA Central Massachusetts in July 2022 as the Director of Wellness and Health Equity. Before that, she was the Fitness Program Manager at Sanofi in Boston. Sofia has worked in corporate fitness for more than ten years. Additionally, she has worked with various populations in different community settings. Sofia holds Personal Training, Group Fitness, and Youth Fitness certifications and is a certified Behavioral Specialist. She graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Exercise Physiology from Becker College. Sofia loves participating in outdoor activities and giving back to the community in her free time.

- Discuss challenges and barriers in community engagement and approaches to overcome barriers.
This project supports the mission of the NNLM by improving the public’s access to information and enabling them to make informed decisions about their health.
